Location and History
This historic hotel is situated directly on the bank of Reuss River, which flows into Lake Lucerne, near the river's junction with the lake. Set on the northern side, the hotel is right in the heart of Lucerne's historic district.
In the early 1200s an inn occupied this location. Later, it became the site of Lucerne's town hall, then a guild hall. Eventually, the beautiful building was transformed into Hotel des Balances in 1836. Since its inception, it has hosted royalty, celebrities, artists and nobility.
