Location and History
Margaret River is one of Australia's premium wine regions. The Grand Mercure Basildene Manor is located close to these iconic wineries, although the region extends for 60 miles north to south.
Basildene was built in 1912, by Englishman Willmott Percy and his wife Margaret. At the front of the grand residence is a tall oak tree planted in 1910 from an acorn sourced from London's Buckingham Palace. Local granite rocks were used, and timber from the surrounding jarrah forests was hewn into fittings for the interior.
