Location and History
This unbelievably picturesque port town has been painted, photographed, recreated (in Orlando, Florida) and idealized in film and literature since the Renaissance. Modern-day travelers have elevated it into the hierarchy of must-see destinations. It is perhaps the most romanticized Italian destination outside of Rome's Forum and Gimignano's famed towers in Tuscany.
Guests of this luxurious imp—there are just 14 rooms—are right in the thick of it, with the best rooms gazing out at Portofino's cobblestoned piazzetta and about 2-billion euros worth of polished watercraft.
