Accommodations range from deluxe to very basic. The country inns are very clean and more than adequate, offering insight into the culture. If you're not staying in Taipei's Grand Hotel, visit the lobby anyway or have coffee in the hotel restaurant. The building itself is shaped like a temple (it's near the Shihlin night market). In general, hotels are on the expensive side in Taiwan but cleaner than many other Asian destinations.
