I read with great interest Arnie Weissmann's column on tourism to Cuba [From the Window Seat: "Visiting Cuba, but more specifically, Cubans," Jan. 30]. I agree that there is no better way of understanding a country than to meet the people who reside there.
Currently, there is massive confusion about who can and cannot travel to Cuba. Travel has been curtailed by many of the best tour operators because of technicalities in our laws. I am confident that if they were comfortable selling tourism to Cuba, they would not hesitate to do so.
It would behoove the government to set forth what is correct and incorrect so travel agents responsible for placing the great majority of bodies on tours are doing the correct thing. We do not want to do a disservice to clients and find that one day they will be turned away at the gate.
