InsightIdaho-based Sea Kayak Adventures launched a sea kayaking tour to the island of Espiritu Santo (Holy Spirit) in the Sea of Cortes off La Paz, the capital city of southern Baja.

The company, which offers a full range of catered/guided luxury camping, sea kayak and whale-watching programs to the islands off the southern half of Mexico’s desert Baja peninsula, offers its latest tour from October through April.

Kayaking off Sea of Cortes“Espiritu Santo Island is three hours north of Los Cabos by our express van service,” said Terry Prichard, company founder. “The accessibility, history, wildlife, scenery and uncrowded nature of the uninhabited wilderness island make this experience the polar opposite of the megaresort and celebrity scene in Los Cabos.”

The Espiritu Santo trips range from five to eight days, depart from and return to La Paz and are priced from $995 per person, including airport transfer, taxes, two nights’ hotel in La Paz, meals while kayaking, all gear, instruction and guides (one guide per three to four guests).

Prichard pointed out that a two-person sea kayak is “very stable, unlike its tippy whitewater cousin, and basic paddling sills are easily learned. No previous kayaking or camping experience is necessary because we provide instruction and certified sea kayak guides.”

Participants on Sea Kayak Adventures’ trips range from 11 to 79 years old, “who enjoy being outdoors and intimate with nature, but who do not want to be bothered with setting up camp and cooking. We take care of all the details while tailoring trips to meet everyone’s desires,” according to Prichard.

His company has operated in Baja Mexico since 1993. The local guides work actively with researchers to protect marine life, especially the endangered sea turtles.
