Kate Rice
Travel Weekly senior editor Kate Rice received an Eddie
award from Folio magazine for her May 5 cover story, “The War on Human
Trafficking.”
Folio, a business trade publication for media executives,
awarded Rice the Eddie in the “Business to Business, Travel, Single Article”
category at a ceremony at the Yale Club of New York City on Dec. 11.
In the winning article, Rice, who primarily covers travel
retail and technology, explored the intersection between the travel industry
and forced labor, sexual exploitation and slavery.
Senior editor Michelle Baran, who covers tour operators, was
a finalist in the same category for her article “Courage and Caution,” which
examined the challenges independent women face when traveling in countries
where reports of violence against women are increasing.
