The Nevada Ballet Theater and Cirque du Soleil are teaming up for the ninth installment of their "A Choreographer's Showcase" this November.
The special performance brings together the talents of Cirque du Soleil acrobats, aerialists and performers with the dancers and choreographers of the Nevada Ballet Theater. Original works will be performed by more than 50 Las Vegas artists from both companies.
Every year the showcase focuses on a different theme, so every installment is unique. This year's theme, Unity Through Art, pushes choreographers to think about the power of art and music to bridge differences and bring people together.
The creative team includes dance master Tiffany Baker and artist Alan Medina, both of "Michael Jackson One," and "Zumanity" performer Jonas Wolverton.
The showcase includes a focus on promoting the arts among young people, and every year school students are invited to a special matinee performance of the show. To date, almost 9,000 local students have attended the showcase, and since 2013 approximately 40 scholarship students from the Nevada Ballet Theater's Future Dance Scholar program have performed in the showcase alongside the professionals.
The proceeds from "A Choreographer's Showcase" support the Nevada Ballet Theater, its affiliated academy that trains over 400 students, and its education and outreach programs.
This year, an extra performance has been added to give the public more of a chance to catch the collaboration. The showcase will be held Nov. 13, 19, and 20 at the Mystere Theatre at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino.
