Any forecasts made at the end of 2019 for the year 2020 could not have foreseen that the best-laid business plans would be hijacked by a pandemic.

And even the course of 2021 was impossible to predict, with two variants appearing at unpredictable moments.

Businesses must, nevertheless, draw plans for an upcoming year, and to get some sense of how industry executives are looking at the next 12 months, we interviewed Stephanie Linnartz, president of Marriott International; Orlando Ashford, executive chairman of Azamara; Becky Powell, chief strategy officer of the Global Travel Collection; and Peter Kern, CEO of Expedia Group, to see what they believe might happen in 2022.
