Direct-to-consumer operator Grand Circle Cruise Line has added more than 600 single cabins to its 2016 river and small-ship cruise inventory to meet increased demand among U.S. seniors, the company reported this week.
Grand Circle will offer 3,595 single cabins for 2016 compared to the 2,973 it is offering in 2015, a 21% increase in single cabin inventory. In 2015, 33% of all Grand Circle travelers have thus far booked as solos, up from 30% in 2014 and 24% in 2010.
Additionally, 88% of solo travelers are women, up from 80% in 2014, the company reported.
“More travelers are reserving with us as solos, regardless of marital status,” Mike Dowd, CEO of Grand Circle Cruise Line, said in a release.
Established in 1998, Grand Circle has 16 river cruise itineraries in Europe and 14 small ship itineraries in Antarctica, Panama and Europe. The cruise line is a division of Grand Circle Corporation, which is also comprised of Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Travel.
