Chile will join the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) on May 1, the State Department said on Friday.
Chilean passport holders with an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization and an e-passport will be able to visit the U.S. without nonimmigrant visitor visas.
The country will be the only one in South America in the 37-nation VWP.
The State Department nominated Chile for inclusion in the VWP last June, and the country has since undergone a verification process to prove it meets the program’s security and information-sharing requirements.
