... and the pope in Mexico

Another public figure making news in Mexico last week was Pope Benedict XVI, who began a weekend visit, his first, to the country and to the colonial city of Guanajuato on March 23.

In deference to the pontiff’s visit, several of Mexico’s major drug cartels declared a sort of mini-cease-fire and hung banners in Leon (where the papal jet landed) that carried messages of peace.

TC hears that one banner warned rival gangs not to create trouble during the pope’s stay.

Too bad it was only a four-day visit.
