American Airlines is expanding its codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways to add connecting flights to 16 countries for AA customers, subject to regulatory approval.

The move comes as American prepares to launch daily New York JFK-Doha service on June 4.

Under the agreement, American customers would be able to book Qatar Airways flights via Doha and on to Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Qatar serves 12 U.S. destinations from Doha, including JFK, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago O'Hare, Houston Bush Intercontinental and Philadelphia.

Qatar and American entered into a codeshare partnership in early 2020, just weeks before the start of the pandemic.
