American Airlines will begin codesharing with Chilean discount airline JetSmart on June 15.

The first routes in the partnership will be JetSmart flights from Santiago to the Chilean cities of Antofagasta, Concepción and Puerto Montt. Ticket sales for those American codeshares began June 1.

The three codeshare routes are the kickoff of a broader strategic partnership between the two airlines and will augment existing American routes to Santiago from its Miami and Dallas hubs.

As part of the partnership, American has taken an undisclosed minority stake in JetSmart, which operates 77 routes throughout South America and operates 24 aircraft.

The partnership is to include numerous codeshares as well as loyalty program benefits, the carriers said.

American, which lost its key South American partnership with Latam to Delta in 2019, also now partners with Brazil's Gol.
