Delta Air Lines will allow customers to make changes to Basic Economy itineraries for the remainder of the year.

The temporary measure took effect Thursday and will extend through Dec. 31. No change fee will be assessed.

Delta typically does not allow Basic Economy ticket holders to make changes. However, in prepared remarks this week, CEO Ed Bastian said the carrier decided to temporarily waive that policy in an effort to address call wait times until if finished increasing staffing.

Delta plans to hire and train 1,300 call center representatives by September. Earlier this month Bastian acknowledged that wait times at Delta call centers are averaging an hour during some time periods.
