The FAA said its computers that process flight plans are again operational, after a malfunction caused widespread flight delays and cancellations on Thursday morning.
The computers that malfunctioned are in Salt Lake City and Atlanta. A similar incident occurred in August 2008 at the same two computer centers.
According to the FAA, flight plans had to be loaded manually after the automated system malfunctioned.
Thursday's incident particularly affected airport operations in Atlanta, as AirTran and Delta canceled flights.
American Airlines said hundreds of its flights were delayed nationwide.
