U.S. discount carrier Frontier has entered into a codsehare
agreement with Mexican low-cost counterpart Volaris. Subject to regulatory
approval, the codeshare routes will be available for sale this spring.
Frontier described the deal as the "first codeshare
between uniquely branded ultralow-cost carriers."
The airlines are still working out which routes will have a
codeshare designation.
Volaris serves 24 U.S. destinations and 40 in Mexico.
Frontier flies to 75 U.S. destinations along with Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto
Vallarta in Mexico. There are 21 cities that both carriers serve.
Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena estimated that the codeshare deal
would add 20 destinations and 80 routes to the carrier's network.
