JetBlue has introduced its version of the basic economy fare.
The carrier will use its Blue Basic fare to compete for
budget-conscious travelers. Blue Basic fliers aren't allowed to cancel or
change tickets and must board in the final boarding group. They also must pay
an extra charge if they wish to select seats more than 24 hours before their
flight.
Otherwise, Blue Basic fliers can expect a similar experience
as JetBlue economy travelers, including the option to bring one carry-on bag
and one personal item onto the plane for no extra charge.
"There are a growing number of travelers who want an
ultra-low fare, and we want to have an option that meets their needs while also
offering the award-winning JetBlue experience they know and love," JetBlue
spokesman Philip Stewart wrote in an email. He cited JetBlue features such as
the most legroom in coach among U.S. carriers, free WiFi, seatback
entertainment on every aircraft, and unlimited free snacks and soft drinks.
