LATAM, which plans to seek a joint venture with SkyTeam member Delta, has informed Oneworld that its departure from the alliance will come on Oct. 1, 2020.

The carrier gave Oneworld the official notice in late September, soon after it inked an agreement under which Delta plans to acquire 20% of the South American carrier, spokesman Martin Diaz said.

LATAM has not announced any plans to join SkyTeam, and the carrier has said it will maintain existing bilateral partnerships with Oneworld airlines British Airways and Iberia.

However, the Delta deal will mean a split for LATAM and codeshare partner American. The companies said in late September that they planned to wind down that partnership over the fall. Meanwhile, Delta and LATAM said that they plan to begin codesharing as soon as late this year.
