United Airlines plans to begin flying between Los Angeles
and Singapore on Oct. 27, pending government approval. The route would be the
longest operated by any airline to or from the U.S. at 8,700 miles.
The flight, which would last just shy of 18 hours westbound,
is to surpass United's and Singapore Air's competing service between San
Francisco and Singapore as the longest involving a U.S. destination. Those
flights span 8,446 miles.
United will fly the daily Los Angeles-Singapore route with a
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft will have 252 seats, including 48 Polaris
business-class seats and 88 Economy Plus seats, which offer extra legroom at
the front of the economy cabin.
