Virgin Atlantic opens new terminal at Heathrow

Virgin Atlantic has opened its new Terminal 6 at Londons Heathrow Airport. The airline said the new facility will handle over 60,000 passengers every week and around 3 million passengers next year.

Virgin Atlantic called its business-class check-in, the Upper Class Wing, "the fastest check-in in the world, making it possible to transfer from limo to lounge in minutes, partly due to a dedicated security corridor." The carrier said economy and premium economy passengers now have access to a "wider, brighter and more spacious" terminal. Virgin Atlantic expects 80% of its passengers at Heathrow to be using online or kiosk check-in by the end of 2008.

We are also pleased to be able to open our facilities to the public months before British Airways opens the giant Terminal 5," said Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic.

British Airways is expected to move into its new Terminal 5 at Heathrow at the end of March.
