WASHINGTON -- Amtrak expanded its Internet-based Rail Sale program
that offers consumers up to 70% discounts on tickets booked on
line.
Amtrak initially launched the Rail Sale program in November 1998
with tickets on select long-distance trains. The tickets are not
commissionable.
The expanded Rail Sale fares are posted every Monday; the fares
are available for at least one week and only to customers who
purchase tickets on-line using a credit card.
The nonrefundable tickets are available for coach class travel.
However, they may be upgraded on board, subject to
availability.
"With the incredible growth of e-commerce, we have consistently
seen an increase in our market share of on-line travel business,"
said Barbara Richardson, executive vice president of Amtrak.
