Eurostar trains to connect London, Avignon: Travel Weekly

NEW YORK -- High-speed Eurostar trains will begin connecting London with the southern French city of Avignon this summer.

This summer, travelers can go for the first time directly between London and Avignon city-center-to-city-center via the Channel Tunnel on the high-speed Eurostar train. The London-Avignon route will run only in the summer, between July 20 and Sept. 7, although tickets may be booked as early as March 19 through Rail Europe or DER.

The London-Avignon Eurostar run will take just over 6 hours between London's Waterloo Station and Avignon Center and only stop at Ashford in Kent. The weekly service will run once in each direction on Saturdays only.

Ticket prices start at $188 round trip in standard class with 14-day advance purchase, $229 one-way in first class (Leisure fare).

A special low fare of $80 (standard class), $165 (first class) is available for those travelers with a France Railpass, France 'n Italy Pass, BritRail Pass, Europass, Eurailpass or Eurail Selectpass (with France as one of the three selected countries).
