France will build a high-speed rail line -- the TGV EST, connecting
Paris to Strasbourg -- by 2006, according to Rail Europe in
Harrison, N.Y.
The 192 mph TGV (Trains a Grande Vitesse) will cut the current
travel time of four hours to two hours and 19 minutes and will
eventually connect to the main cities of southern Germany,
Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Construction is expected to begin near the end of 2000.
