Megabus.com, a subsidiary of Coach USA,
said it will be the first U.S.-based motorcoach company to offer an
intercity, double-decker bus trip.
The inaugural trip,
from Chicago to Minneapolis, begins tomorrow and the Chicago-based
company plans to integrate its 17 newly purchased double-decker
buses into already scheduled routes in Ann Arbor, Mich.;
Cincinnati; Cleveland; Columbus and Toledo, Ohio; Detroit;
Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; and St. Louis by January
2008.
The new
79-passenger, 13.2-foot high buses were manufactured by
Belgium-based Van Hool. They are wheelchair accessible and come
equipped with passenger seatbelts.
Megabus.com was
launched in April 2006 with bus travel service to 12 Midwest cities
and seven West Coast cities, offering a limited number of seats on
each of its bus trips for the low cost of $1.
