Perurail has introduced a new service class, called Expedition, along its Cuzco-Machu Picchu route.

According to Perurail, Expedition is intended to replace its existing Backpacker service along the route. Several Backpacker carriages have already been removed from service, and a complete switch to Expedition is planned by the end of the year.

According to a Sept. 20 statement, railcar upgrades include panoramic windows, increased legroom, refurbished carriages and climate control.

The service runs four times per day and departs from Poroy in Cuzco and Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Tickets are $34, the same cost as Backpacker service, and can be purchased online at www.perurail.com.
