NEW YORK -- American Express unveiled a product for senior corporate executives called the Corporate Platinum Card.

The card is designed to provide cardholders with an elite level of travel-related services while at the same time keeping their spending patterns within individual corporate travel policies.

"The Corporate Platinum Card is designed for America's most demanding business travelers," said Ed Gilligan, president, American Express Corporate Services. "The benefits and services increase travelers' convenience and comfort, and they provide an expanded level of protection needed for traveling around the world."

The card, which has a $300 annual fee, offers special perks for cardholders, including:

  • Concierge services. A team of personal consultants to assist with special requests and business activities.
  • International airline program. Card members traveling overseas on a first class or business class ticket using participating airlines will receive a free companion ticket using the same itinerary.
  • Hotels, resorts and spas program. Free room upgrade, continental breakfast, guaranteed late checkout and one additional amenity at more than 300 participating luxury hotels around the world.
  • Fine dining program. Assistance in making reservations at more than 200 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.
  • American Express Membership Rewards program. Free enrollment in the program, which offers travel and other perks for frequent users of the card.
  • Airport club access. Free admission to Northwest, Continental and TWA airport lounges.
  • Car rental programs. Enrollment in premium rental programs at Hertz, National, Budget and Avis.
  • Cardholders also get $500,000 coverage when scheduled airline, boat, train, bus, airport limousine or scheduled helicopter trips are charged to the card.

Assistance is available for travel emergencies, such as English-speaking medical and legal professionals. When necessary, emergency evacuation is offered at no extra cost.

Beth Casteberry, director of shared travel services at Dun & Bradstreet Corp. and IMS Health, said the card helps her company retain travel data.

"Our executives, some of whom have preferred to use their personal American Express Platinum Cards to charge T&E, can now access many of the same benefits and services with the Corporate Platinum Card," she said.

She said the new card gives the company more complete spending data, which can be used to negotiate corporate rates and air fares with suppliers. American Express, the largest issuer of corporate charge cards in the world and the largest travel agency in the U.S., has more than 75% of Fortune 500 companies as its business travel customers.
