Accor plans to open its first Orient Express hotel in Rome.
It will make its debut at the site of the current Hotel de la Minerva, located in Rome's Pantheon district at the Piazza de la Minerva. The historical building was originally constructed in 1620 and has been operating as the Hotel de la Minerva since 1832.
The hotel is set to undergo a full renovation, with the property set to reopen under Accor's Orient Express flag by late 2023.
Accor first announced that it would launch new collection of hotels under the Orient Express name in 2017, after it acquired a 50% stake in the brand from French national rail company SNCF Group.
Accor had previously announced plans to open its inaugural Orient Express hotel in Bangkok, but a spokesperson for the Orient Express brand confirmed that that project is no longer in the works.
