Morocco's La Mamounia hotel reopened in Marrakech following a $176 million restoration. The property, which opened in 1923 and has hosted such luminaries as Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and Catherine Deneuve, renovated all of its 136 rooms, 71 suites and its three traditional Moroccan villas. Five restaurants and a spa are on site, along with a 20-acre garden. French architect Jacques Garcia designed the restoration, which took three years. The hotel is a member of Leading Hotels of the World; rates for early 2011 begin at about $530 per night. Details are at www.mamounia.com.

Each suite has a Bose sound system and marble- and mosaic-tiled bathroom. The wing also features a heated indoor swimming pool with eye-level views of the Amstel River. Rates in a junior suite with breakfast costs about $770 per night. Meanwhile, Hotel De L'Europe's original Rondeel Building, a city-designated landmark, is undergoing a top-to-bottom refurbishment, with completion slated for April.

• Gemstone Hotels & Resorts, a full-service hotel management company that specializes in luxury and upscale urban hotels and resorts, has been contracted to manage the 66-room Tivoli Lodge in Vail, Colo. The luxury ski resort hotel re-opened in March 2006 following the demolition of the original 1968 Tivoli Lodge and the rebuilding of a new, state-of-the-art facility. The ski-in property is nearby the Vista Bahn chairlift, Vail's main access point, and a short walk from Golden Peak and the Riva Bahn chairlifts. It has two outdoor mountainview hot tubs, and offers a choice of mountain or village view rooms with fireplaces and soaking tubs. Rates vary based on room type and arrival date. Its website is www.tivolilodge.com.
