New York’s second Pod Hotel is accepting reservations. The 367-room Pod 39 will open in June in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood.
Like its sister property, Pod 51, the new hotel will offer rates starting at $119. Three room configurations will be available: bunk, double and queen.
Owner and operator BD Hotels opened the first Pod hotel five years ago.
Co-founder Richard Born said Pod attracts “individuals who thrive on travel and are looking for a hotel that enhances their exploration of a place. For them, the communal experience in the hotel’s public space is vital, being plugged-in is essential and terrific style at an affordable price is expected.”
Pod 39 will occupy a landmark building that opened in 1918 as the Allerton House, a residential hotel. In 1956, the Salvation Army converted the building to the Ten Eyck-Troughton Memorial Residence for Women. BD Hotels acquired the property for $28 million from the Salvation Army in 2010.
After passing through a red-tiled vestibule, guests will enter a space with a “window box” reception desk, a coffee bar and a “screening wall” where guest photos and videos are projected.
Opposite the elevators will be a wall of large touch-screen tablets available for guests. Also on the ground floor, the Pod 39 Great Room will be the communal center of the hotel, where guests can work, read or meet friends.
In addition, Pod 39 will have a casual-dining taco restaurant and a rooftop lounge on the 17th floor.
