SAN FRANCISCO -- Downtown hotels here are celebrating the reopening
of the central plaza of Union Square July 27 by promoting packages
good from late July through the end of the year.
The central plaza has been closed for renovation since late
2000. When reopened, the square will feature a stage large enough
for a symphony orchestra, terraced seating areas and palm
trees.
Among the offerings:
• The Pan Pacific has a Custom Union Square plan priced at $209
per night, including a choice of breakfast for two, a city tour for
two or overnight parking; a gift from Macy's; and a discount packet
from local retailers.

• The Campton Place created a Bed and Breakfast package starting
at $295 for rooms with king-size beds. The plan includes a $25 food

• Crown Plaza Union Square set a rate of $189 for a room and

• Personality Hotels, which has several properties near the
square, created a Circle the Square package, with continental
breakfast, shopping discounts and an arrival gift.
The rates are $139 at Hotel Union Square and Metropolis Hotel

• The Hotel Nikko is offering the Park, Play and Stay program,
available for $185. It includes parking, a $10 meal coupon and

Among the company's other offerings is a plan from the Sir
