The Riu Palace Tropical Bay (the former Riu Tropical Bay) in Negril, Jamaica, will reopen on Dec. 5 following a four-month, $25 million renovation.
The all-inclusive beachfront resort will have 400 junior suites, 24-hour room service, five restaurants, water sports and entertainment.
"This was our first resort in Jamaica and has been very successful," said Luis Riu, CEO of Riu Hotels & Resorts. "We felt that a full upgrade to a Riu Palace category would complete our range of product lines in Jamaica. The North American market, the primary market for our Caribbean hotels, has responded positively to the Palace luxury brand."
Riu has four resorts totaling 2,357 rooms in Jamaica: Riu Montego Bay, Riu Ocho Rios, Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay.
Riu will reopen the Riu Tequila in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in December. The property closed in August for a $15 million renovation.
