CHICAGO -- The fourth annual E-Tourism Summit will be held at the W
Lakeshore Hotel in Chicago Nov. 4 and 5.
The purpose of the conference is to provide a bridge between
traditional destination organizations and suppliers and innovators
in e-commerce, according to Jake Steinman, president of North
American Journeys and the organizer of the E-Tourism Summit.
Steinman said he started the event because "I attended an
Internet travel conference and could barely comprehend a word
anyone said."
The conference is designed to be "devoid of buzz words, jargon
and IT technobabble," according to Steinman, but still will address
the issues of e-commerce that travel companies must reckon
with.
More than 30 companies will participate, including Google,
Expedia, Priceline, the Mark Travel Corp., Travelweb and Starwood
Hotels and Resorts.
Travel Weekly senior editor David Cogswell will moderate a panel
titled, "How Traditional Tour Operators Have Adapted to the Online
World."
