MIAMI -- Far & Wide Travel Corp. purchased its first tour
operator outside of the U.S., Toronto-based Lion World Travel.
The 35-year-old company specializes in travel to southern
Africa, as does Far & Wide's most recent acquisition, African
Travel of Glendale, Calif.
Lion World Travel will join Far & Wide's Africa division,
which is headed by David Herbert of African Travel.
Lion World's president Lucille Sive will remain as president of
the Toronto company.
"Having two such leaders in African travel as part of our Africa
division allows us to offer travelers and travel agents the best in
this unique travel experience," said Phil Bakes, Far & Wide's
chairman and chief executive officer.
Since its founding by Bakes and his partners less than a year
ago, Far & Wide purchased a dozen tour companies, including
Central Holidays, IST Cultural Tours, Tourlite, Zeus Tours and
Pacific Bestour.
