LYNBROOK, N.Y. -- Sceptre Ireland bucked the direct sales trend by
going all-agent as of Oct. 31, turning over the 35% of business
formerly booked direct with consumers to its retailer partners.
In addition, the company -- which claims to be the largest U.S.
operator to Ireland -- introduced net rate pricing for travel
agents.
"The industry is too big and complex for a firm to be both
wholesaler and retailer," said Chris Accomando, vice president. "We
... want [agents] to do what [they] know best, which is to market
and sell to the consumer ... [and] we are arming agents with
greater flexibility and freedom in pricing."
