White Desert, a luxury tour operator that specializes in Antarctica expeditions, is launching the Dr. Jones Collection in the first of its South America itineraries.

The company will expand outside of the polar region for the first time with a September itinerary that will take travelers from Peru to Patagonia. The 12-person journey aims to pair the "glamour of 1940s aviation and movie-set adventure," the company said. Guests will travel on a luxury-customized Dakota plane.

"Just as we have done in Antarctica, I wanted to create a journey that was as adventurous as it was luxurious -- and in Dr. Jones, we have found the perfect balance', said White Desert founder Patrick Woodhead. "Even on the reconnaissance for the journey, we visited landscapes that I never knew existed. They were just so surreal."

The 12-day trip will begin in Peru, where travelers will visit Gocta, the third-highest waterfall in the world. They will also hike through Amazonian cloud forests and see ancient mummies before flying to Dune Camp, which the tour operator developed.

Travelers will have the opportunity to explore the salt flats of the Atacama Desert in Chile, go stargazing and hike through a canyon to hot springs. They will ride horses on the Torres del Paine in Patagonia.

Three departure dates will be operated. The tour costs $49,950 per person.
