NEW YORK -- Alan Fredericks, Travel Weekly's editorial director,
was honored last week with a lifetime achievement award at the
annual Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International
(HSMAI) awards night.
Fredericks, who joined Travel Weekly 35 years ago this spring,
was the recipient of the HSMAI's Winthrop W. Grice Award for
outstanding contributions to the travel industry in the field of
public relations and communications.
Fredericks was the editor of Travel Weekly from 1972 to 1997 and
was named vice president/editorial director as well in 1987. He has
responsibility for Travel Weekly, TWcrossroads.com, TravelAge West,
Travel Management Daily and Meetings & Conventions.
Previously, Fredericks became the first representative of the
trade press to receive ASTA's Melva Pederson Award for
contributions to travel journalism. He also was the 1999 recipient
of the GD Crain Award given by the American Business Press for his
contributions in the editorial field.
He is a graduate of New York University and has a master's
degree from the New School for Social Research in New York.
Before joining Travel Weekly, Fredericks spent 11 years as a
radio announcer, newscaster and disc jockey for radio stations in
Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York.
