ARLINGTON, Va. -- ASTA members overwhelming approved referendums
that allows agencies and agents operating under new business models
to join the Society as travel agency companies and travel
professionals.
Many of the changes are geared toward home-based or independent
agents.
For Travel Agency Companies, the change adjusts the errors and
omissions insurance requirement for membership and makes eligible
IATAN Travel Sales Intermediaries-accredited agencies.
For the Travel Professional category, the altered rules simplify
the process for membership applications.
Members, voting in ASTA annual national elections, also approved
a bylaws change in national officer qualifications to allow two
members from the same chapter to serve on the Executive Committee
at the same time.
ASTA members also elected chapter officials.
In New York, Simone Bassous was elected Queens Borough chapter
vice president, Alice Tillem was elected treasurer and M. David
Francis was elected secretary. And Franklin Emery was elected
president of the Maine Subchapter.
