Charlottesvile, Va.-based WorldStrides, which bills itself as the largest education travel company in the U.S., has acquired student travel company Explorica, based in Boston.
According to WorldStrides, Explorica provides international travel for 35,000 middle school and high school students in the U.S. and Canada each year. Explorica also has a division (Keating-Explorica) providing domestic travel to students in Canada.
Explorica's management and employees will continue with WorldStrides, including Explorica's founder and chairman, Olle Olsson.
Jim Hall, WorldStrides president and CEO, said in a statement that with the addition of Explorica, WorldStrides will have over 1,300 employees in 45 offices around the world.
WorldStrides is a unit of the Carlyle Group.
