Isla Mujeres has a new resort that promises to bring a little glam to a Mexican destination best known as a getaway for scuba divers and sun-seekers on a budget.
The new Privilege Aluxes (pronounced ah-LOOSH) Resort, which opened in February, is owned and operated by Caribbean Privilege Hotels & Resorts, which also owns the Fantasy Island Beach Resort on a private island off the south shore of Roatan, Honduras.
The Isla Mujeres property features 124 guestrooms and suites located in five buildings strung along Playa Norte, considered by many to be Isla Mujeres' best beach.
Rooms are decorated with modern furnishings and come in six categories, including premium, platinum and Presidential suites.
The more expensive rooms come with separate living rooms and Jacuzzi soaking tubs on private balconies; all rooms include WiFi, LCD TVs, personal computers and iPod docking stations.
"Our goal in developing the new Privilege Aluxes Resort was to create an ultraluxe, romantic getaway complemented by world-class service and sophisticated dining options," said Osmany Garcia, director of sales and marketing for Caribbean Privilege Hotels.
The resort has three restaurants featuring European, Asian and Mayan influences; a spa and fitness center; and two swimming pools.
Guests can reserve spa services, make restaurant reservations or book excursions 24 hours prior to arrival on the resort's Web site, at www.privilegehotels.com. The site also enables guests to reserve a private transfer from Cancun Airport to the Puerto Juarez Maritime Terminal for the 20-minute ferry ride to Isla Mujeres.
The resort is promoting an introductory rate of $135 per person, double, through April 15. A number of travel packages are available.
