Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: June 2, 2008

CORAL SANDS TRAVEL, a host agency, formed a separate cruise-only host agency called World Cruising Society. It was created to provide "an alternative to the multilevel-marketing travel agencies that are sprouting up everywhere," said Peter Stilphen, Coral Sands' CEO. He said World Cruising Society is offering new and experienced travel agents the opportunity to join a reputable agency for "a small fraction of what it would cost to join and maintain an affiliation with a multilevel marketing model host agency." The cost to join is $150 per year.

NEST, the Network of Entrepreneurs Selling Travel, chose Xcaret, Mexico, as the site for its fourth annual conference, set for Nov. 13 to 16. The event will take place at the Occidental Grand Xcaret (with pre-event fam opportunities in Cancun and the Mayan Riviera). NEST set an early-bird registration fee of $79 per person until July 1. The conference agenda includes product training, sales-and-marketing seminars and face-to-face networking with peers and suppliers. Visit www.jointhenest.com.

TOUR DESK: Travel Impressions added Dubai to its portfolio of destinations and rolled out packages that include accommodations at the luxury Burj Al Arab, a landmark hotel that looks like a sailboat. "Interest levels for vacationing in Dubai have increased dramatically among the traveling public as well as with our travel agent partners," said John Hanratty, chief marketing officer of Travel Impressions. Travel Impressions is offering six-night, air-inclusive packages starting at $9,499 per person through October.

DATEBOOK: The OSSN Connecticut Chapter will meet June 11 at 6 p.m. for a workshop with Travel Insured and A&W Marketing. The meeting, at On the Border Mexican Grill in Rocky Hill, costs $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Agents should RSVP via e-mail to [email protected].
