The El San Juan Hotel reopened on Feb. 5 as part of Hilton's Curio Collection, following a six-month closure for a propertywide, multimillion-dollar renovation.
The refurb project was one of the most extensive since the property opened in 1958.
All 388 guestrooms have been remodeled. Additions include meeting spaces, a new pool, 22 cabanas, a new fitness center and spa facilities, several new restaurants and shops.
The iconic lobby has been modernized and the hotel entrance redone with a cobblestone plaza and sculpture by local artist Luis Torruella that floats in a pool of water.
"As one of San Juan's most historic buildings, El San Juan Hotel is the perfect choice for our collection's first property in Puerto Rico," said Mark Nogal, global head of Curio.
"The hotel's commitment to local experiences through its art, culinary offerings and programming is sure to draw the Curio traveler looking for an authentic stay."
