InsightCuba is including free roundtrip air from Miami to Havana and other Cuban cities in conjunction with departures on four of its small-group tour packages through 2020, except for certain blackout dates.
The tours are Insight's 10-day Undiscovered Cuba program, the six-night Classic Cuba tour, the five-night Legendary Cuba tour and the four-night Weekend in Havana program.
Two of the itineraries include travel from airports outside of Havana: Classic Cuba, where guests utilize the airport in Santa Clara, and Undiscovered Cuba, where guests use the airport in Holguin, according to the InsightCuba website. But InsightCuba president Tom Popper said Oct. 28 that the Trump Administration's plan to ban Cuba flights by U.S. carriers to cities outside of Havana will not change the promotion.
"Ironically, it was only earlier this year that we started finishing the tour in Santa Clara, where guests would fly Santa Clara-Miami," Popper said of the Classic Cuba itinerary. "For 19 years prior, Classic Cuba arrived and departed in Havana after heading out to Cienfuegos/Trinidad. Given the news about the airport in Santa Clara, we are going to have Classic Cuba fly in and out of Havana once again.
"What's great is that none of the tour programming needs to change," he said. "The only substantial change will be that guests leave Cienfuegos for Havana for their flight home on the last day of the tour. In the end, the more complicated it becomes to travel to Cuba, the more special it becomes for visitors."
For Undiscovered Cuba, he added, he expected to provide charter air service into Holguin.
"The bottom line is that the harder it becomes to travel to Cuba for Americans, the more special it becomes."
The inclusion of air has not meant an increase in the package price, he said. "This is a true value-added offer," he said. "We're not raising our prices. This just makes traveling to Cuba lot easier when booking air and land at the same time."
Updated: This report was updated to include detail about the Trump Administration's plan to restrict U.S. commercial flights to Havana.
Corrected: This report was corrected to change the airport from Santiago de Cuba to Holguin. Also, the the four-night program is the Weekend in Havana itinerary.
