JetBlue will launch new twice-weekly nonstop service from New York JFK to St. Thomas on Oct. 1.

"Coronavirus has transformed airline route maps, and as we begin to see small signs of recovery, we continue to be flexible with our network plans to respond to demand trends and generate cash in support of our business," said Scott Laurence, head of revenue and planning.

U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism Joseph Boschulte said the new service will help to meet strong demand for travel from the northeast U.S.

"We're pleased with the timing of this service, ahead of the winter season," Boschulte said.

JetBlue currently serves St. Thomas from San Juan and will resume Boston-St. Thomas flights this fall.
