Kempinski Hotels and Grupo de Turismo Gaviota have signed a management contract for Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski, a five-star luxury resort complex 300 miles east of Havana.
The property, Cuba's first non-all-inclusive resort, will be built like the bow of a boat advancing into the Atlantic. The 245 rooms and suites will include six overwater villas with private pools. Most of the guest rooms will have sea views.
The hotel is currently under construction and is scheduled to open later this year.
Facilities will include a spa, yoga classes, pools, specialty and buffet restaurants, a kids club, gym, lobby bar and cigar bar.
The Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski opened in Havana two years ago, which "introduced the concept of luxury hospitality to Havana," said Markus Semer, chairman and CEO of Kempinski Hotels. "We are honored to have been selected as management company for the first luxury resort in Cuba."
