After missing the list entirely last year when recovering
from Hurricane Maria, San Juan has risen to the No. 5 spot on Allianz Global
Assistance's list of the top international spring break destinations.
"Americans are once again spending their travel funds
in Puerto Rico, which has made an impressive comeback as it continues to
rebuild after Hurricane Maria," said Daniel Durazo, Allianz's director of
communications.
Allianz determines the top spring break destinations, both
domestically and internationally, by reviewing trips of five to eight days
planned for the spring break season from Feb. 22 to April 21.
On the international list, the top 5 are Cancun; San Jose
Del Cabo; Nassau, Bahamas; Puerto Vallarta and San Juan. Rounding out the top
10 are Oranjestad, Aruba; Higuey, Dominican Republic; Montego Bay, Jamaica;
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
The top 10 domestic destinations for spring break are Orlando, Phoenix, Las Vegas,
New York, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Salt Lake City and
Tampa.
The busiest domestic travel day during spring break season will
be Feb. 28, and the busiest international travel day will be March 16.
