In a continued effort to protect the environment, Sandals Resorts International will eliminate all styrofoam products from 19 Sandals and Beaches resorts across seven Caribbean islands, effective Feb. 1.

"It's incredibly important to our Sandals family that environmental sustainability remains a key priority," said Adam Stewart, deputy chairman of Sandals. "We're making this shift to ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean."

The resort chain eliminated plastic straws, stirrers, laundry bags and gift shop bags last year and will continue to explore opportunities to eliminate other plastic items at its resorts by September.

Sandals and Beaches' properties are certified by the EarthCheck program, which is used to monitor the sustainable and environmental programs at various resorts. In order to be certified, resorts have to show evidence of their recycling programs, conservation practices and ecological responsiveness.
