American Cruise Lines' first 100-passenger catamaran, American Eagle, set sail on its inaugural cruise from Boston.
The ship is the first of a dozen vessels ACL has ordered to operate U.S.-centric coastal voyages. The four-deck ship was designed and built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland.
The American Eagle set sail on Aug. 14 on a seven-day Cape Codder cruise with calls at Martha's Vineyard; Newport, R.I.; and New Bedford, Mass.
The ship will be christened at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Aug. 16. It will sail the East Coast, including itineraries in Maine before sailing south along the coast between South Carolina and Florida.
Its sister ship, American Glory, is expected to debut in November with a 10-day American Revolution cruise sailing out of Baltimore.
