The CDC on Friday started advising people with increased risk for severe illness due to Covid-19 should avoid cruise ship travel, regardless of vaccination status.

The guidance applies to older adults, people with medical conditions and pregnant or recently pregnant people and includes ocean and river cruises.

Previously, the CDC had only advised that those who are not fully vaccinated avoid travel on cruise vessels.

The change comes as the Covid surge in the U.S. continues, especially in Florida, where the majority of cruises from the U.S. are currently sailing from.
