CLIA has named
Thomas Ostebo, a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, the next
president and CEO of the cruise trade association, effective June 6.
Ostebo holds the
rank of rear admiral. Most recently he was director of strategic
management, where he supported strategy and budget policy for the Coast Guard. Previously, he
had been commandant of the Coast Guard’s 17th District and led all of the agency’s
operations in Alaska, the Arctic and North Pacific areas.

Chairman Adam Goldstein said Ostebo was picked for his years of leadership and
experience, his strong communications skills and his energy.
"This
appointment is a perfect next step in my career as it allows me to leverage my
experiences and passions, from leading large complex teams to advocating for
marine resources,” said Ostebo.
Ostebo
succeeds Christine Duffy, who resigned in January to become president of
Carnival Cruise Line.
